Merdeka

For the past two decades, Merdeka Days in KL were pretty typical for me whereby I get extra excited because August the 31st had always been an extra holiday for all, me waking up early at the sound of airplanes flying all over our place releasing smokes with the colours of our national flag and having mom sitting still in front of the television watching the parades, live on screen.

This year (well I forgot what last year was like), I stayed up till midnight doing nothing significant in hostel and stared wistfully at space thinking how is it like to celebrate Merdeka Day across the sea from the place I call home.

Just as the clock struck 12, we heard people screaming "MERDEKAAA!" from the block across mine. This, was followed by a continuous 30 minutes of "Merdeka" shouting everywhere along with people waving our national flags on bikes which went to ride around the campus, honking and honking as though our country had just gotten her independence yesterday swt.

That aside, nothing significant happened. No fireworks, no airplanes, no nightlife, no parades, no patriotic songs played over and over and sadly too, no "Merdeka month performance and recordings" for me =(

However, as a Malaysian still, here's wishing my country a very Happy Independence Day. Sincerely from me, from the state below the wind.
